9/11’s Watch List

In a self-promotional boost, Comedy Central Insider posted today on the J Post‘s profile of Comedy Central’s latest eerily provocative show (since “The Showbiz Show With David Spade,” that is), “The Watch List.” The show is intended as a response to the anti-Arab sentiment in the U.S. post 9/11, to poke fun at stereotypes of Arab culture and debunk some cultural myths in the process.

Co-creators of “The Watch List” Max Brooks (Mel Brook’s son) and Dean Obeidallah who were interviewed by “The Jerusalem Post “ have been receiving some major traffic in the way of comments for their views, most notably Brook’s comparison of Nazi Germany to treatment of Arabs in the U.S. post-9/11.

Brooks, son of comedian Mel Brooks and actress Anne Bancroft, says watching his friend Obeidallah’s experience after September 11 reminded him of what Jews encountered at the beginning of the Nazi regime (though Bancroft wasn’t Jewish, Brooks identifies as one).”He suddenly went from valued citizen to enemy alien,” Brooks recalls. “German Jews thought they were German first and then their fellow Germans taught them otherwise.”

I can’t help but think of irony that this dude’s father was the one that penned “Springtime for Hitler.”
