Mt. Scopus

This is the view from the 8th floor of the Novotel Hotel which straddles Meah Shearim and East Jerusalem. It shows the Hebrew University of Jerusalem out in the distance atop Mt. Scopus. We will be spending Shabbat here. Tonight we will usher in the sabbath at the Kotel (Western Wall) – we’ll light candles on Rabbi Ezra‘s roof top in the old city and then make our way to the Kotel. Afterwards, we’ll have dinner at the hotel. Tomorrrow we will have lunch with different local families who have invited us over. Obviously, in keeping with the sabbath spirit there will be no photos. When I have a chance I’lll upload photos of today’s activities which included a climb up Massada and a mud covered dip in the dead sea. Shabbat Shalom everybody!

Some of our trip participants wanted me to take this opportunity to thank Taglit birthright-israel and Oranim for this opportunity – it’s been far more than a free trip to Israel so far!
