Duke Lacrosse Players Innocent

This was pretty clear from the beginning and it’s a crying shame that these young men and their families had to go through this ordeal. I suspect it’s not quite over for them either since two of the players have not yet graduated and need to find new schools.

In the meantime, one interesting tidbit is that at one point Reade Seligmann’s attorney, Kirk Osborn, attempted to have the DA, Michael Nifong, recused from the case. As one of the points raised, he states:

18. Additionally, according to a News and Observer article on Friday, April 28, 2006, Milik Zulu Shabazz, head of the New Black Panther Party, in a telephone interview stated that he and others plan to meet with DA Nifong about these cases on Monday, May 1, 2006. Upon information and belief, the New Black Panther Party is listed as a racist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center; and the Anti-Defamation League considers the Group extemely anti-Jewish. The Defendant has a Jewish parent. Any meeting with this group’s leadership will only increase the negative and divisive nature of the publicity that DA Nifong has nurtured with his handling of this case.

Reade Seligmann is son to Philip and Kathleen Seligmann and graduated from a prestigious private Catholic high school from which 5 players went to Duke’s top-ranked lacrosse team. It’s interesting to note that the attorney doesn’t identify Reade as Jewish, but only one parent who is. Assimilation in action.

I came across this information by pure chance after stumbling upon a white supremacist website. You know, the kind that said there are two whites and a Jew who were charged with rape by Nifong.
