The Technion, located in Haifa and founded in 1912 is Israel’s oldest University. Technion currently has 616 faculty of which 3 are Nobel Laureates. Recently, a bid by a consortium of Cornell University and Technion won a competition to establish a new high-tier applied science and engineering institution in New York City. The competition was established by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in order to increase entrepreneurship and job growth in the city’s technology sector. The winning bid consisted of a 2.1 million square feet state-of-the-art tech campus being built on Roosevelt Island, which will have its first phase completed by 2017, with a temporary off-site campus opening in 2012. The new School of Genius in New York City has been named the Technion Cornell Institute of Innovation (TCII). This is the first time any Israeli university has moved into establishing a center of global advanced research in the United States. Further expanding its role as a global innovator, Technion has also established 2 new world-class programs in English – The StartUp MBA designed for entrepreneurs, and a Masters Degree in System Engineering for people with Engineering degrees who want to get ahead.
Sounds pretty serious right? Right? Of course Technion’s geeks innovators stay on top of every trend, and Internet memes are no exception. Here are the brainiacs of Technion doing the Harlem Shake. I added the link as a courtesy but if you have to click on it, then, well… you really are clueless. Expect many more of these from Israel because it’s the month of Adar and we’re supposed to be silly. And then there’s Purim and its religiously mandated drunkeness, though I am not suggesting that these students are drunk…
