My relationship with the organized Jewish community has always been touch and go. Sometimes it’s been great, sometimes it’s been indifferent and sometimes it’s been nothing short of awful. Having just flown into New Orleans with Jewlicious invited to do all kinds of fun and interesting stuff at the GA, who did I choose to spend my first hour with? Why none other than our friends from Westboro Baptist! You, know, the God hates Fags people? They picket funerals of Gay US soldiers, Jewish events, pretty much anything – including the GA!

Megan Phelps, grand daughter of Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist was there and we have an amicable relationship on twitter. I promised them some Halva from the shuk, which I delivered to their picket, and she got me some awesome Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark chocolate (certified Kosher Dairy by the way). Then of course we had the usual discussion about God and righteousness and fornication before Megan and her family and friends had to leave. Well… at least with Megan, I ALWAYS know exactly where I stand.
I’m off to speak to some student writers with the Do The Write Thing group, then off to our much anticipated Art of LeChaim seminar on how to make a proper LeChaim for different events. Free whiskey from Johnnie Walker included. It’s going to be a mob scene.
