It also contains some fascinating interviews with both Arabs and Israelis who were involved in the fighting, including at Deir Yassin.

This documentary is really well made and balanced, and I remember vividly how they are not shunning difficult questions. I saw it a couple of years ago on Israeli Channel 8. I can recommend it. Takes some time to watch. Better grab it from your favorite torrent site, as it requires some dedicated couch-potato-time. Might be a bit outdated as of now and the POV is western. Still, a couple of hours well spent.

What is the “current consensus?” There is no such thing. Deir Yassin has always been one of the most loaded elements of the debate about 1948 and has become a convenient tool of the pro-Palestinian side to hammer away at the 1948 War as if it is representative of the entire war. First hand footage of people who were there and people who then went on the airwaves to promote “the story” is what you get in this documentary and that helps to clear up any confusion about what you may read from either side about this event.
Why don’t you spend 10 minutes watching the first two clips? I promise you will not be disappointed.
